Creativity: The slumbering giant of organisational studies
Rickards, T., 1999, Chapter 2, Creativity: The slumbering giant of organisational studies, in Creativity and the management of change, Blackwell, Oxford.

The given article mainly focuses on the importance of the innovation and creativeness in corporate success.  The level of creativeness and innovativeness of company employees decides the company’s future.

It is very clear from the article that the companies, which have encouraged their employees to be innovative, ultimately benefit more and has very low turnover.  There were few things which were focused on the article are, improving on self confidence and mutual trust amongst a group, motivating the employee in such away that company’s target become individual target. In the end good innovative ideas should be rewarded also.

There are some ways to check innovativeness of a person, sometimes that can be assessed by putting individual in challenging situation, giving freedom to perform work, conflict solving and risk taking ability.

Innovative ideas should be backed both by both level, supervisory and at the organizational level. Supporting employees by providing enough resources, by giving freedom, instruments and equipments to overcome obstacles are the primary focus area for employer. The level of magnitude, radicalness and  novelty of the product decides the future for the company.  TCI and ‘Keys’ are important measurement in measuring innovativeness of a company, though they are not very accurate.

This article clearly goes one on one with lecture and the matters those were discussed in the class.
